On Saturday, October 5th, Alpha had an outreach at Autumn Hope 2013 Fall Festival by Joshua’s Hands in Waterford, VA. As usual, we road together in the van to the outreach. After about 10 minutes on the road Tim decided to stop at a gas station to fuel up, unfortunately, when he tried to start the van, we found out that the battery died. So we had to call Mrs. High (a parent of two of the members) to bring her car to help us jump the battery. After trying for a while they finally were able to charge the battery enough to get the van started.
We arrived later than we wanted, so we quickly hopped out and started putting paint on our faces, using the van windows as mirrors. It was around 80 degrees when we grabbed our props and headed onto the stage. During a few of the songs some of the props were misplaced, which gave us some confusion. The whole time we were presenting, the sun beat down on us, making a few of the members feel faint and by the end we were all dripping with sweat. When we were finished, we picked up our props and walked over to another stage, waited for about 15 minutes, and performed the same songs there. This second stage, which was thankfully in the shade, was however, very rickety and during some of the songs we could feel the stage bouncing underneath our feet!
We then ate lunch and stroll mimed for an hour or so, than we helped run the kids games. This was difficult at times to explain how to play them, without talking. A lot of the games were in the sun, so our assistant directors walked around and gave us water and made sure we stayed hydrated.
When we were finished, we all packed up and headed home. Thankfully we didn’t have any problems with the van driving back. On the ride home we received many funny looks and stares, because we still had our paint on.
Over all, it was a very good outreach! Both the kids and the parents responded very well! Even a few though of the members weren’t feeling good, we had some prop/stage difficulties, and it was very hot out, we were still able to share the gospel and be a light to everyone who was there. To God Be The Glory!
