Be Kind To Yourself

Be Kind To Yourself                                                                                                                     By Andrew Peterson

(0:10) You’ve got all that emotion that’s heaving like an ocean
And you’re drowning in a deep, dark well
I can hear it in your voice that if you only had a choice
You would rather be anyone else

(0:28) I love you just the way that you are
I love the way He made your precious heart

(0:27) Be kind to yourself
Be kind to yourself

(0:46) I know it’s hard to hear it when that anger in your spirit
Is pointed like an arrow at your chest
When the voices in your mind are anything but kind
And you can’t believe your Father knows best

(1:04) I love you just the way that you are
I love the way He’s shaping your heart

(1:13) Be kind to yourself
Be kind to yourself

(1:22) Well how does it end when the war that you’re in
Is just you against you against you
Gotta learn to love, learn to love
Learn to love your enemies too

(1:44) You can’t expect to be perfect
It’s a fight you’ve gotta forfeit
You belong to me whatever you do
So lay down your weapon, darling
Take a deep breath and believe that I love you

(2:02) Be kind to yourself
Be kind to yourself
Be kind to yourself

(2:16) Gotta learn to love, learn to love
Learn to love your enemies
Gotta learn to love, learn to love
Learn to love your enemies too

Alpha Outreach at God’s Clear View Ministry

On Saturday October 17th, Alpha had an service day outreach a God’s Clear View Ministry, or for those who know them better as Carlos and Migdalia. 🙂 We were able to have Joseph Queen join us for the day.

We met early in the morning while it was dark and cold outside and came home late that same day, when it was dark and cold outside also… When we arrived, Migdalia had lots of food to snack on before we started working.  It was a very chilly day over all, we even got to experience some snow while we were there …. yes, snow!

Our first job of the day was to move a LARGE pile of fire wood inside. We made an assembly line and started pilling the wood higher and deeper along one of the hallways inside. That ended up taking us most of the morning. We then took a break for a delicious lunch, thanks to Migdalia again. 🙂 After lunch we split into a few groups. One group was the wood burning crew, who worked away at cleaning up scrap wood pieces and then attempted to fit them into barrels to burn. Another group worked in the Blessing Shop, they organized the cloths and swapped out the summer clothes for winter clothes. And the last group worked on cleaning up the garden, they pulled out weeds and covered the garden with straw to winterize it.

Alpha Outreach at Hope Rescue Mission

On Monday October 12 Alpha had an outreach at Hope Rescue Mission, which is a men’s shelter in Reading. Since we have practices on Monday afternoons we put on our face paint after we practiced and loaded up into two vehicles and traveled there. We were glad to have Tim King come along with us. While we were driving we attempted to eat our packed suppers without messing up our paint.

As we walked through the door we were greeted by several people. The main room where we were going to be presenting, was full. Since we had some time until we were presenting, we decided to do some “stroll miming”, such as playing tug of war, playing baseball, and getting stuck in “boxes”. Then we presented several songs. At the end we were thanked by several people. As we walked out we saw a mural on a building close by, so we had some fun taking pictures there.

Alpha at Sandy Hill Community Church

shcc3On Sunday morning May 3rd team Alpha headed out for Sandy Hill Community Church we arrived at roughly 9:30am and after we talked with one of the pastors and figured out how things were goanna roll we practiced two of the four mimes we were going to present. After that we headed down to the basement to do a short presentation for the kids. Even though we were only with the kids for a short time we had fun interacting and presenting to them. shccshcc2 We then waited for a short time for the Sunday schools to finish up and in between Sunday school and church we had a brief time to talk to different people in the congregation. Then we set up and presented two more of our mimes to the congregation. shcc1shcc4 Later after the service we again had time to talk with the people there and several people said they enjoyed the mimes, also we had one lady say she was crying. Three different people talked to Timothy King, our Director, about the possibility of us doing some other outreaches with things like youth group and VBS. So from this one outreach we got three other possible outreaches! Praise God! Another cool thing that happened was that right after we presented our last mime, “Go”, which talks about the fact that we need to keep passing on our Christian faith from generation to generation or eventually it will die, one of the pastors announced that he was retiring. Through all of this we can only thank God and praise him for the opportunity we had! To God be the Glory! ~Alexis Weaver

Alpha at Blue Ball Chruch of the Brethren

On Sunday, March 15th Alpha presented at BBCOB. We got there around 9:00am and partticipated in the youth and post high sunday schools. Afterward we headed into the service and for the worship time we presented two of our mimes.IMG_0812IMG_0816IMG_0831

Everything went well and the mimes ran smothly. After the service severl different people said they “apperciated DRAMA coming.” One of the ways we saw that God was with us at this outreach. Is that one of our members back was giving her trouble and as we were setting up our first mime the pain went away and as we where finishing up our last mime the pain came back. In all of this we can only prasie God and give him all the glory he is due. Praise God!
